High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Attunga Public School, we are dedicated to recognising and nurturing the strengths of our high potential and gifted students. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we work closely with families to support each learner’s individual pathway.
Our classroom practices are designed to both support and extend students who show high potential. Teachers carefully identify learning needs and use evidence-informed strategies to challenge, motivate and stretch students’ thinking. We offer a range of learning pathways, including enrichment, extension and, where appropriate, acceleration.
As a small school, our multi-age classes provide a unique, supportive environment where students feel a strong sense of belonging. These collaborative settings encourage creativity, problem-solving, risk-taking and independence.
Our staff engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure we meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with high potential and gifted abilities. At Attunga PS, we are committed to creating a learning culture where every student can excel and achieve Our Best Always.
At Attunga Public School, we recognise that every student is unique. We provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore their interests and grow their strengths both inside and outside the classroom.
Our whole-school programs are designed to support student growth, offering meaningful experiences that extend learning beyond the core curriculum. We identify and support students with high potential through targeted enrichment, extension and extra-curricular opportunities including debating, competitions, critical-thinking activities, STEM projects and coding.
Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles through our Student Representative Council, mentoring programs and peer-support initiatives. We nurture student talent through creative outlets such as drama, music, visual arts showcases and creative writing opportunities.
Our students also engage in a range of sporting experiences, including coaching sessions, house competitions, gala days and differentiated physical education programs that promote teamwork, skills development and personal success.
The Small Schools Debating Challenge helps our students build logical arguments, speak confidently and engage thoughtfully with complex topics.
CAPERS, a regional performing arts event, gives our students the chance to shine on a large stage while celebrating the talent, diversity and creativity of students from across New England public schools.
Our STEM enrichment Small School days with industry and University of New England deepen our students’ intellectual curiosity while developing innovation and collaboration.
